An absolutely beautiful MTB race, which in my opinion would be suitable for gravel bikes and much more fun on a gravel steed. Nevertheless. You don't know until you try.
Battled out in a fairly large group of dude for most of the race before myself, James Tennent and another guy broke away. I think it was with about 10km's to go. It felt like a road race and ended up in sprint finish with James just getting it on the line. I managed to squeeze into that 2nd spot. It was also the first race back after being away for one month. I won't go into that detail... But I so badly want to expose those details.
I'll only say that it was because I raced a gravel race and someone wanted money...(put two and two together).
Sorry, blabbing on. Yzerfontein Cycle Experience has a lot of potential. A small podium at the end would be nice where we could get a photo of the winners in each category. There was nothing like that. It left a bad tast in a few peoples mouths and I think lost a few participants for next year.
People like to hang out after an event, but this was more like, race - go home. Done.
I'll be back next year, for sure. Why, I love the racing and I also want to try this race on my gravel bike.
Till next time.
